Gershon Ben Keren has authored three major books on Krav Maga, all of which have achieved Amazon bestseller status, these are:
"Krav Maga: Real World Solutions to Real World Violence" (2014) - This book serves as an introduction to Krav Maga for those unfamiliar with the system. The book focuses on the practical application of Krav Maga techniques in everyday premediated violent scenarios, such as street-robberies and planned abductions/kidnapping etc. The book emphasizes the importance of situational awareness, explaining and demonstrating what it is, whilst also describing and explaining the psychology of violence. One of the key aspects of this book is its focus on preemptive action and conflict avoidance, aiming to empower readers to recognize and disengage from potential threats and attacks before they escalate. When dealing with physical confrontation the book follows the four “D’s” approach i.e., Disrupt, Damage, Destroy and then Disengage. The book advocates a “Stun and Run” approach, that sees a decisive, quick engagement with an attacker(s) that is followed by an equally fast disengagement.
"Krav Maga: Tactical Survival" (2016) – The focus of this book is on dealing with social interactions that have turned aggressive and potentially violent e.g., disputes over parking spaces, conflicts about a person’s position in a queue/line etc. These types of incidents are the most common and likely ones that people will face, so knowing how to handle them is an essential part of self-protection. In the book, Gershon describes how such situations develop and how to deal with “low-level” attacks, such as clothing grab. The book also describes a proven and effective method of de-escalation and conflict resolution, describing and explaining the psychological processes that aggressive people undergo, and the ways in which these can be addressed.
"Krav Maga: Extreme Survival" (2018) - This book tackles extreme scenarios that one might hope never to encounter, such as surviving an active shooter/killer incident, a home invasion or a car-jacking. Whilst such scenarios aren’t as common as those tackled in the previous two books, they are higher consequence ones, with a greater likelihood of serious injury or death.
In a writing style that is direct, concise, and devoid of the often-seen mystique in martial arts literature, using clear explanations, supported by experience and academic knowledge, the books present effective self-defense solutions. The books are recommended to be read for those in law enforcement, security, and civilians interested in personal safety and have led to speaking engagements, including Google Author Talks, where the content of the books are explained in more detail.
