Gershon Ben Keren, started is Krav Maga training in Israel, in 1993. He later went on to complete and pass the IKMF’s 29-day instructor course, under the direction of Eyal Yanilov and Amnon Darsa. He has since written three books on Krav Maga (Tuttle Publishing), and in 2010 he was inducted into the Museum of Israeli Martial Arts in Herzliya, Israel. He is a 5th Degree Black Belt in Krav Maga (the grading board included Yaron Hanover, 10th Dan) and has also studied Hisardut, directly under Dr Dennis Hanover, and trained with Miki Assulin, Avi Moyal, and Haim Gidon. He currently runs Krav Maga Yashir Boston, in Woburn, Massachusetts, continuing to return to Israel to teach and train, as well as bringing instructors over from Israel to teach seminars at his school.
He has two master’s degrees. One in psychology (Newcastle University) and the other in criminology and criminal psychology. He is both a member of the APA (American Psychological Association) and the ASC (American Society of Criminology). The solutions he presents concerning the prediction, prevention, and avoidance of violence are researched and evidentially based. Using real world studies concerning different aspects and types of violence, the material and ideas that are presented in the blog, are more than theoretical musings or “good” ideas about violence, that may at first glance seem to make logical sense but actually have no grounding in reality and/or evidence/proof to support them. Coupling this evidential approach, with his own firsthand experiences of violence, since starting work in the security industry in 1990, helps inform him of the realities of real-life violence.
Gershon started the blog in 2010 and has been writing articles for it weekly since then; sometimes more if certain relevant and newsworthy events occur. If there are certain subject areas you would like him to write articles and/or have any questions, concerning violence and/or the subject areas he has written about, please feel free to contact him, using the sites contact page, which can be accessed by clicking here.
