Krav Maga - Real World Solutions to Real World Violence
"Krav Maga - Real World Solutions To Real World Violence" (Tuttle Press - 2014), looks at a variety of premeditated assaults, such as muggings, abductions, as well as certain incidents of pre-meditated violence. Strategies and tactics, along with techniques and solutions are presented that deal with a wide variety of armed and unarmed attacks and threats (Gun and Knife). Photographs were taken in real-life locations, and shot at full speed, so the real nature of both the attack and the defense could be captured. This allows for the realism of violence to be presented, rather than staged in a studio setting.
As well as presenting physical techniques the book also explains and demonstrates the contextual aspects of violence. Violent incidents don't occur in a vacuum and take place in time and space involving some form of social interaction. These aspects of violent events are important in knowing how and when to respond. Premeditated violence also involves a process that precedes the interaction, and by understanding the steps and stages that an offender must go through in order to interact with the individual they have selected to victimize it is possible to predict, recognize and avoid predatory individuals before they can enact their plan, whether that is a street robbery or an abduction etc.
The book also presents the fundamental techniques of Krav Maga, explaining how they conform to the concepts and principles of the system. Unlike most other martial arts, Krav Maga is not defined by the techniques it teaches - these may/can evolve and change over time - but rather by a framework of ideas. It is out of these concepts that techniques and solutions to violence are created and developed. It is only by understanding these concepts that Krav Maga as a fighting system can be fully understood.
